Water costs are rising. You need a Guru!

Michigan residents use about an average of 79 gallons per person per day statewide, just below the national average of 88 gallons per person per day.

Among Michigan counties, Monroe County had the highest residential water use, at 93 gallons per person per day in 2010. In the tri-county area, residential consumption rates were 85 in Wayne, 80 in Macomb and 74 in Oakland, according to USGS data.

In short this data means, the days of cheap water in the Michigan Region and especially the Metro Area are gone due to usage and an ageing infrastructure.

"Tried and true techniques have worked for so many, for so long, why change?"

Because the inefficient use of water in a landscape raises operational out-of-pocket water expense, creates an environment for plant disease to thrive, and causes what should be a healthy micro-ecosystem to fall into chaos.

If your sprinkler service contractor has been arriving in April, setting the controller for 30min or more for large grass areas, 15min for small grass areas and shrub beds, and telling you it is best to run the system one time every other day for the remainder of the season, you need a Guru!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Yes!   A rain sensor is considered a fundamental part of all lawn sprinkler systems. Rain sensors, save water by interrupting watering cycles during a rain event when enough rainfall has occurred to trigger the sensor.

Rain sensors however only sense rain fall as an event, resulting in little water conservation beyond that point.

Without a rain sensor you might hear, "Why are the sprinklers on when it's raining?"

Water audits are a scientific process of assessing and recording water usage of an existing lawn sprinkler system in an effort to increase the irrigation systems efficiency.

Landscape irrigation water auditing is a great tool and the first major step towards lowering your water bills, and maximizing water use.

A water audit consists of four main procedures: Initial Site Inspection, Water Measuring, Performance Report Generation, and Irrigation Schedule Adjustment.

Irrigation water audits result in significant water savings up to 40% monthly even with a conventional control timer providing it has advanced programming functionality, and the system is equipped with a rain sensor.

The audit process is designed to provide insight into the inner workings of your landscape, its plant material, soil types, water absorption rates, evapotranspiration rates, precipitation rates, and how your irrigation system addresses these factors.

To maximize your monthly water savings, an irrigation water audit is only the first major step, an audit is best paired with a smart technology controller with weather station to achieve up to a monthly savings of 60%!

A smart technology controller with weather station automatically adjusts irrigation schedules in response to changing weather conditions.

It monitors information such as rain, and temperature, the amount of time it takes for water to evaporate, and plant type to calculate the amount of water needed to keep plants healthy.

Only watering when needed, and only as necessary!

Smart controllers are also called “weatherbased irrigation controllers.”

The Irrigation Association defines these as units that monitor and use information about environmental conditions for a specific location and landscape to decide for themselves when to water, and when not to, providing exactly the right amount of water to maintain lush, healthy growing conditions.

Paired with an irrigation water audit, and an efficient system design, a smart technology controller will reduce your monthly irrigation water expense by up to 60%!
